Indigenous Sustainability Workshops and Shows
Indigenous Sustainability is based upon the premise that the indigenous people of the world have successfully tended forests, jungles, plains and seas for thousands of years. In our industrial and technological world we have lost many sustainable practices that could help us change the world. They can be rediscovered by listening to indigenous people who are still alive today.
Actionwork are touring 'I hate being late' to schools throughout 2025. I hate being late is both a show, a workshop and a book that takes students on a journey to the Malaysian rainforest where we meet the Temiar people. The Temiar are an indigenous community who live in the jungles of Malaysia and have ancestral lands dating back thousands of years.
In the show/workshop sessions we explore deforestation, climate change, energy crisis, scorched earth, eco-practices, sustainable living, nurturing nature and how we can make a difference in this ever changing world. These shows/workshops are perfect for both primary and secondary schools.
Students will get to meet and interact with someone who actually grew up with the Temiar people in the jungle. In addition, as part of the booking, each school will get a copy of the book 'I hate being late'.
How to book
Indigenous Sustainability is touring schools March-December 2025.
We can run a maximum of 4 x 1-hour sessions and a minimum of 2 x 1-hour sessions in a day. Typically a day for a primary or secondary school may look like this:
- 9:00 - 10:00 Session 1
- 10:30 - 11:30 Session 2
- 12:00 - 13:00 Session 3
- 13:00 - 14:00 Lunch
- 14:00 - 15:00 Session 4
Timings can be flexible, anytime morning, afternoon or evening.
We will bring all our own equipment.
